Not even Detroit Pistons head coach Dwane Casey could have imagined that veteran point guard Derrick Rose would be producing like this as a result of the 2019-20 regular season. However, despite the former league MVP playing out of his mind en route to a red hot start to the year, Rose has been coming off the bench for the Pistons, a team that signed the seasoned signal caller over the summer.

“I understand the frustration of fans – and I’d be frustrated too if I saw this dynamic player who’s getting everything done going off the floor,” Casey recently said of Rose, via Rod Beard of The Detroit News. “But he’s not a machine; he’s a human being.”

Through the team's first three games of the 2019-20 regular season, the 31-year-old Rose is averaging 25.3 points points and 26.3 minutes per contest. Nonetheless, Rose understands that monitoring his minutes will be key going forward — for both himself and Casey's Pistons.

“Not this soon,” Rose said in regards to playing 40 minutes, via Beard. “It plays a part in playing through fatigue. It’s still early. I’m in shape but to actually be in and doing all that I’m doing and having the same mindset to play while I’m fatigued, it takes some time to adjust to that.”

Although Rose and the Pistons are just 1-2 on the season, Detroit has impressed early on as the team's star player in veteran power forward Blake Griffin has yet to see the court due to injury. The Pistons have lost to both the Philadelphia 76ers and Atlanta Hawks in addition to defeating the Indiana Pacers.
