Detroit Pistons head coach Dwane Casey has enjoyed coaching point guard Derrick Rose this season.

Rose has been the Pistons' best player despite being on a minutes restriction. Casey has recently given Rose the starting job after the former MVP asked for and received additional playing time.

“He just shows his talent. Talent wins in the NBA and he’s one of our most talented players. We had (Rose) off the bench just to control his minutes and that's on me and it's on us (coaches). He's been great; he's been like the Derrick Rose of his MVP years,” Casey said, via Rod Beard of The Detroit News.

“We still have to be smart and watch his minutes because we have to help him from itself, because we can't ramp his minutes up; we got to make sure we watch them.”

Rose has appeared in 38 games this season for the Pistons. He's averaging 18.4 points, 2.4 rebounds and 5.8 assists while shooting 49.8 percent from the field, 31.3 percent from beyond the arc and 86.9 percent from the free-throw line.

The 31-year-old guard has scored at least 20 points in nine straight games entering the Pistons' Wednesday matchup against the Sacramento Kings. Rose is averaging 21.6 points over his last 14 games.

Dwane Casey and the Pistons could trade Derrick Rose at the February trade deadline. He's garnering interest from multiple contenders, including the Los Angeles Lakers and Philadelphia 76ers.
