Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press broke the news that Detroit Pistons backup point guard Ish Smith is expected to make his return to the court on Monday night.

Smith has played in only 22 games this season for the Pistons. Even as he makes his way back, it seems like the guard will not be at 100 percent immediately.

The 14-year veteran brings experience and savvy to a Detroit team that badly needs a boost. He has played for 10 different NBA teams in his long career, and has shown that he can play some solid basketball for the Pistons.

This year, Smith is averaging 9.2 points and three assists off the bench. Never a great shooter, the Wake Forest product relies on his small, six-foot frame and slithery ball handling to create looks in the lane.

While Smith will remain as Reggie Jackson's backup for the rest of the season, he provides Detroit with valuable quality minutes off the bench. The team hopes that Smith's return can trigger a turnaround. The Pistons recently got an upset win against the Los Angles Clippers thanks to a monster game fro Blake Griffin, but they currently stand at just 18-23.

Detroit will need to get production out of guys other than Griffin, Jackson, Reggie Bullock, and Andre Drummond to be a playoff team. They will get another look on Monday to see if Smith can be that source, and will certainly have their hands full with the Jazz.
