The Detroit Pistons will be without their rookie point guard Killian Hayes for longer than they had hoped for.

Hayes has only played in seven games this season and has been out since January 4 after a hard fall against the Milwaukee Bucks. The 19-year-old won't need surgery on his injured hip, which is good news.

The bad news? Hayes won't be back for a couple of months as he recovers from that hip injury.

Killian Hayes was the starting point guard for Dwane Casey's Pistons squad, and his absence has left Deron Wright and Derrick Rose splitting time starting at the point.

Hayes was off to a slightly disappointing start this season, as he averaged just 4.6 points and 3.6 assists per game, but his loss will still be tough for the Pistons to deal with.

The talented rookie can make a lot of plays on the basketball court, but an injury less than 10 games into his NBA career is far from the start anybody had hoped for. While the Pistons certainly weren't going to fight for a playoff spot in the East this season, Hayes' injury will force Casey to rely on other guys or perhaps take a waiver on somebody else until he returns.

Questions remain with the status of Blake Griffin and Derrick Rose–both of whom could be traded at the deadline. The Pistons sit at 3-10 and at the bottom of the Eastern Conference.
