Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores is expected to meet with the dual-title-holding Stan Van Gundy next week, as the summer approaches with many changes left to make in what has been four years of underperformance for the team.

Since Van Gundy took over the helm at to start the 2014-15 season, the Pistons have only made the playoffs once in four seasons, putting in question his ability to handle two hats at once as the head coach and president of basketball operations.

“I see value in the front office and the court being connected,” said Gores when asked of Van Gundy's dual role, according to The Associated Press.

The Pistons have dealt with several injuries, with the starting core of Blake Griffin, Reggie Jackson, and Andre Drummond only playing four games together this season. Yet the fact remains that the Pistons have found themselves just short of the postseason constantly, and even with a change of arena, they've been unable to bring change.

“We probably need a few more games with them playing on the same team if we're going to be good,” Van Gundy said. “Still have to own the 38 wins right now. You can't run from that.”

Gores will be forced to make some changes, but will give Van Gundy the respect of the conversation, before taking any measures.

“I wouldn't make a decision without Stan,” Gores said at halftime of Monday night's 108-98 loss to the Toronto Raptors. “He's been our partner for four years.”

“I think he deserves the conversation. He's been good for us.”
