Detroit Pistons legend Isiah Thomas says he's “happy” to have Derrick Rose in Detroit.

Rose, like Thomas, is a Chicago native and plays a gritty style of basketball.

Thomas, who won two championships with the Pistons and is arguably the greatest player in franchise history, says the city of Detroit is going to “love” the way Rose plays basketball:

“In Chicago, we’ve always had great point guards,” Thomas said, via Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press. “We pride ourselves in Chicago on having great point guard play. Not only great point guard play, you have to be a champion along with that. Before Derrick got hurt, the youngest MVP in the league as (a) point guard, he was someone we were extremely proud of.

“To have him come here to Detroit and be a part of what K.P. (Kevin Porter) was and myself, being able to pass that on to him, I’m just happy he’s here. Detroit’s going to love him.”

The Pistons signed Rose to a two-year deal in free agency this summer. The youngest MVP in NBA history has undergone four knee surgeries, two on each knee, but remains one of the quickest players in the league.

Last season with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Rose averaged 18.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game. The three-time All-Star shot 48.2 percent from the field, 37.0 percent from beyond the arc, 85.6 percent from the free-throw line and scored a career-high 50 points on Halloween against the Utah Jazz.
