The NBA is enjoying a crazy boon in terms of scoring. Just a few weeks ago, we saw LeBron James author two 50-point masterpieces for the Lakers. Not to be outdone, Nets star Kyrie Irving also scored 60 points in a game recently. Now, an unlikely young gun from the Detroit Pistons joins their company.

No, it's not Cade Cunningham. Saddiq Bey, the Pistons' first-round pick in 2022, joined LeBron James, Irving, and other NBA stars with his own 50-point game, scoring a career-high 51 points in a 134 – 120 win over the Orlando Magic. That makes him the eighth player to score more than 50 points in March, marking the first time that's ever happened since 1962. (via Tim Reynolds)

Bey's career night against the Orlando Magic was a perfect display of his talent. The Pistons forward scored 51 points on 63% shooting (including a whopping 10-for-14 from deep), along with nine rebounds, four assists, and three steals. His ten triples tied a franchise-record for most threes in a game.

With Cade Cunningham slowly morphing into the level that many fans expected, Detroit is in pretty good shape. The next step for this team is to get some nice young pieces around their first-overall pick. They seem to have found that in Bey, who's been having an excellent third season with the team.

Can the Pistons make a push for the NBA playoffs this year? It's highly unlikely: the race for the play-in tournament is as tight as it can be. Detroit right now doesn't have the talent to compete in a seven-game series. Give it some time, however, and we'll see Bey, Cunningham, and the rest of the team wreck havoc on their opponents.
