The Detroit Pistons have announced that Avery Bradley will be shut down for one week. The defensive-minded shooting guard will then be re-evaluated afterwards.

“He’s going to be shut down for at least a week,” Stan Van Gundy said after Tuesday’s practice. “We’ll go at least seven days and then week to week. It’s going to take some time. He’ll basically do nothing for the next seven days and then we’ll see where he is and whether we’re starting him back or not.”

The Pistons originally thought of his injury as a right abductor strain, but symptoms point to the possibility of a sports hernia, which is a tricky situation for players to be in.

Bradley has already missed the Pistons' past two games, where the team went 2-0; although the record doesn't do his value to the team justice as Detroit has been surprisingly good this season at 17-13 for fourth place in the East.

Van Gundy will have to bank on old reliables Tobias Harris and Reggie Jackson to mitigate the scoring that will be missed during Avery Bradley's absence, which will be at least three games.

The 6-foot-2 guard has been averaging 15.7 points per game for the Pistons, but his defensive presence is the one asset that is irreplaceable in Bradley. Luke Kennard should ready himself for more opportunities while Avery Bradley recuperates.
