For the second-straight season, the Detroit Pistons are being an underachieving bunch. After a respectable start, they have reverted back to their mediocrity from last year, which saw them end up with a disappointing 10th place finish in the Eastern Conference, much to the dismay of head coach Stan Van Gundy.

The ending of Sunday night's matchup with the Brooklyn Nets was also salt in the wound, as it was a heartbreaking, 101-100 defeat courtesy of a last-second jumper from former Piston, Spencer Dinwiddie. Now 22-23 and having dropped five consecutive games, the loss knocked Detroit out of the .500 mark and further pushed them down the East standings.

Though a slew of injuries had played a part in their rocky 2017-18 campaign, Van Gundy isn't giving his team any pass. Here's what Van Gundy told reporters in last night's post-game interview, according to Dana Gauruder of the Detroit Free Press :

“I wasn't happy with our disposition early on… I don't know what's with us. We're not playing hard enough consistently enough. We played hard at times. I thought fought our way back and really gave it a good fight being down 15. But we're not consistent enough at the defensive end and that, I don't understand.”

Van Gundy could be coaching for his job in the coming days. In three-and-a-half seasons in Detroit, he is yet to bring the winning formula he enjoyed with the Orlando Magic. He has only brought the Pistons to the post-season once, and when he did, they got swept in the first round.

The Pistons will be playing 11 of their next 13 games at home. Let's see if Van Gundy and his men somehow turn their season around during this stretch.
