For the Detroit Pistons and head coach Stan Van Gundy, their path to an impressive 11-6 record through 17 games has been anything but easy. In six of those victories, the Pistons had to overcome a double-digit deficit in order to come back to win.

Unfortunately for the Pistons last week against the Indiana Pacers, they were on the wrong end of a big comeback attempt after they squandered a 22-point third quarter lead on the road.

In an article written by Rod Beard of The Detroit News, Stan Van Gundy opened up about the pace of today's NBA and the significance of more teams blowing double-digit leads.

“That whole lead thing is just the NBA now,” Van Gundy said before Friday's game with the Oklahoma City Thunder. “While I was talking about that in the press conference, (the Thunder were) giving up the big lead here and losing to San Antonio. Miami was up 25 the same night and hung on to win by one.”

The Pistons coach added that he thinks this trend is attributed to teams being much more reliant on successful shooting from behind the arc.

“That’s the NBA with the three-point shot,” Van Gundy said. “People have to change their thinking; it’s not the same game. Leads don’t mean as much; it’s a 48-minute game and you just play.”

Heading into Friday's road game against the Thunder, the Pistons face a very tough stretch and will play six of their next seven contests away from Little Caesars Arena.
