Life in the NBA can be fun and glamorous, but many forget that it’s often pretty rough if you’re just starting out. For new Detroit Pistons rookie Svi Mykhaliluk, he found out that the NBA trade deadline can be a harsh reminder of just how business-like the league really is.

Drafted 47th overall by the Lakers just last year, the Ukranian player was traded to the Detroit Pistons for guard Reggie Bullock less than six months into his NBA career. Trades are never easy in the NBA, but the one that sent Mykhaliluk to Detroit seems extra hairy, as the forward found out about the deal while still on the Lakers team plane.

“Just found out on the plane,” Mykhaliluk said when asked how he found out he’d been traded (via Amico Hoops). According to Mykhaliluk, he’s still currently looking for a place to live in Detroit, and is forced to stay at a hotel until he finds a suitable place. “I’m staying at a hotel right now,” he said. “I just need to find a place where I like.”

While it was no doubt tough, Mykhaliluk took things in stride, sounding excited for the ability to find his role on a Pistons team that aims to fight for a playoff spot. “It’s great man,” Mykhaliluk told Amico Hoops. “It’s (my) first year so everybody knows it’s going to be tough. Gotta get used to it, just gotta find my role, and help my team as much as I can.”

Unfortunately for Mykhaliluk, the business side of the NBA revealed itself fairly quick to the player. Hopefully, though, he won’t have to see that side of it again, but
