The 2022 NBA free agency is right around the corner which means players around the league are going to be reeling in massive contracts. It's an exciting time for the Detroit Pistons right now, as the front office is in the middle of building a foundation to get back into playoff contention in the future. With what is shaping up to be an elite backcourt, it sounds like the team is looking to keep Marvin Bagley III long-term to maintain the front court.

According to Bleacher Report, “Marvin Bagley III is expected to return to Detroit on a deal north of $10 million in average annual value.” that's a sizable contract to remain with the Pistons, as he'd likely serve as the top option in the post for the team. Furthermore, it sounds like the deal might be, “potentially in a structure similar to Kelly Oubre Jr.'s two-year agreement with [the] Charlotte [Hornets] last summer.”

After struggling with the Sacramento Kings to begin his career, many are hopeful Bagley can be a major asset for the Pistons. With Cade Cunningham and now Jaden Ivey running the show in the backcourt, they'll need Marvin Bagley III to become a consistent scoring option down low. If he can do just that, then Detroit's rebuild could be a lot faster than originally anticipated.

The Pistons have plenty of cash to spend in free agency, so they should be busy once the window opens on Thursday. Regardless, it's looking like Detroit has pegged their top three stars already as the organization aims to get back into playoff contention as quickly as possible. They might need another year of development, but the roster is shaping up nicely.
