The Detroit Pistons are exploring trades which would allow them to keep both Christian Wood and Joe Johnson, according to Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press.

Wood’s contract becomes guaranteed if he makes the opening night roster, while Johnson would receive a $1.4 million guarantee if he’s still on the Pistons once the regular season starts.

Two players the Pistons could trade to keep Wood and Johnson are guards Langston Galloway and Khyri Thomas.

Wood’s salary for next season is partially guaranteed. He makes $822,679 if he is on the roster opening night, according to Basketball Insiders. His entire $1.6 million is guaranteed for the season on Jan. 10.

Johnson’s $2.56 million salary isn’t fully guaranteed so it could be a simple call. The Pistons are exploring options that could create an avenue to keep both, which would require a trade.

Two candidates to be moved are shooting guards Langston Galloway and Khyri Thomas.

The Pistons open the season on Oct. 23 against the Indiana Pacers.

So far in the preseason, Wood has played really well, while Johnson has looked like a guy who hasn't played against NBA competition in a year.

The Pistons' final two preseason games this week could help determine whether the franchise keeps both Wood and Johnson.
