The Detroit Pistons are in the thick of the playoff picture nearing the halfway point in the season, but there is some significant interest to add more firepower to the mix.

According to Marc Stein of the New York Times, the Pistons have reportedly expressed interest in acquiring veteran forward Nikola Mirotic from the Chicago Bulls.

Since returning from his facial injury and concussion from the altercation with teammate Bobby Portis, Mirotic has stepped up to become the Bulls' most reliable scorer. He is currently leading the team by posting a career-high 17.4 points with 48.6 percent shooting from the field and 46.5 percent from beyond the arc with 7.0 rebounds per contest.

Mirotic has been able to provide the bulk of this production off the bench while he has shown to be a more effective player in the starting lineup averaging 25.0 points on 56.3 percent shooting from the field and 47.4 percent from beyond the arc with 8.3 rebounds in three starts. He has also scored at least 20 points in eight of his first 17 appearances this season that includes setting a career-high streak with 20 or more points in four-straight games and at least three three-pointers made in five-straight contests.

The addition of the 26-year-old would provide the Pistons with another big man that can stretch the floor while providing some consistent scoring on the floor. Mirotic is currently on a one-year, $12.5 million deal that has a club option worth $12.5 million for the 2018-19 season. With the Bulls floundering with one of the worst records in the Eastern Conference, it could push them to make a move to acquire additional assets to build around their core group.

The trade deadline is still about a month away, but there could be much more to come on this front in the next couple of weeks with it being quite clear that the Pistons are the market to make some moves.
