The Detroit Pistons reportedly never made shooting guard Luke Kennard available in trade talks with the Boston Celtics, according to Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe.

The Celtics tried to get Kennard and big man Christian Wood from the Pistons, but Detroit wasn't interested in making a deal.

The source said Luke Kennard was never made available by Detroit, either, adding that he is the Pistons’ top asset, so the Pistons would need to be “blown away” by an offer for a player who would simply be added to Boston’s bench corps. According to the source, the Celtics were pursuing slightly lower-cost options, like Pistons big man Christian Wood, but nothing materialized.

Kennard has appeared in 28 games for the Pistons this season. He’s averaging 15.8 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists while shooting 44.2 percent from the field, 39.9 percent from beyond the arc and 89.3 percent from the free-throw line.

The 23-year-old guard has been sidelined since Dec. 21 and it’s unclear when he’ll be cleared to play again. The youngster is dealing with tendinitis in both knees.

The Celtics are 35-15 on the season. They had the luxury of standing pat at the deadline since they are one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference with Kemba Walker, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Gordon Hayward leading the way.
