Stanley Johnson's career with the Detroit Pistons has not gone according to plan. The former lottery pick has failed to live up to his billing as the eighth overall pick in 2015 and it appears like the Pistons may be willing to part ways with Johnson.

According to Jordan Brenner of The Athletic, one Eastern Conference executive believes the Pistons would be willing to trade away Stanley Johnson without the need for much return.

“I think Detroit would give Johnson away, and maybe you can try to resurrect him.”

Johnson's days in Detroit could be numbered, but there is a strong reason to believe that another team will take a chance on the 22-year-old swingman. In fact, his age is a huge reason why. He's still very young and a change of scenery could be exactly what he needs to resurrect his career.

Taking on retreads is nothing new in the NBA. The New York Knicks have done so a number of times as they navigate their own rebuild. Noah Vonleh, Emmanuel Mudiay, Trey Burke and Mario Hezonja are all former lottery picks the Knicks are giving a second chance. If one or more of those guys succeed and become a rotational player, it will be a huge win for the organization.

Furthermore, teams tend to believe in their own player development personnel and some teams believe they'll be able to unlock a player's true potential. For that reason alone, teams should be willing to trade for Johnson and it doesn't look like they'll have to give up much to get him.
