New York Knicks guard Frank Ntilikina appears primed to remain in the “Big Apple” for the 2019-20 campaign. However, it is hard to guarantee anything in the NBA these days despite the fact that the Knicks have continued to be adamant about not trading away the soon-to-be third-year guard from France.

With the rumor mill always churning in the NBA, it was recently reported that the Detroit Pistons have been expressing interest in potentially acquiring Ntilikina from the Knicks. While Ntilikina has not exactly lived up to the expectations that typically surround a former first-round NBA Draft pick during his time with New York, the Knicks have really been putting the best rosters together over the course of the last several seasons — which makes it quite difficult to place all of the blame on Ntilikina.

With that in mind, Ntilikina still possesses the ability to play a well-rounded, two-way style when on the floor and has shown flashes of excellence at times. Because this remains true with his third NBA season now on the immediate horizon, perhaps a change of scenery would do wonders for Ntilikina — especially in a much smaller market than New York.

As a result, the Pistons should no doubt continue the team's reported pursuit of Ntilikina, a move that could very well benefit all three parties in this situation.

With a move from New York to Detroit slated to benefit Ntilikina for obvious reasons, the up-and-comer would immediately provide the Pistons will an option off the bench that can play both guard positions. As it stands today, the Pistons have the likes of Reggie Jackson, Derrick Rose, Langston Galloway, Tim Frazier, Joe Johnson, Luke Kennard, Tony Snell and Svi Mykhailiuk at guard. However, while this crop of talent could serve as a formidable one this season, the Pistons could use both some more youth and Ntilikina's defensive prowess added to the mix.

In all likelihood though, the Pistons would be forced to part ways with at least one or two of these players — a few of which have actually already played for the Knicks in years past — in addition to future NBA Draft picks. Even though it would require a hefty haul to acquire Ntilikina, such a move would prove beneficial for Detroit right off the bat.

With Detroit looking to win now and the Knicks looking to do so down the road, these two Eastern Conference franchises could be a match made in heaven in terms of executing a trade.

Although the Knicks need all the help the team can get at guard — and specficially point guard — the lowly Eastern Conference franchise is also intent on stockpiling future draft picks as New York currently has a very young core to build upon. While much of the team's core is already intact on the Knicks' current roster, there will surely be more to come going forward as it appears as though New York will attempt to grow the franchise internally as it has already been proven time and time again that the “Big Apple” may not be the top landing spot for high-level free agents.
