Early in the game, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and LeBron James connected on an inbounds alley-oop which made the Detroit Pistons defense look silly. The Pistons implanted the play on their minds and vowed to avenge themselves. Midway into the third quarter, they succeeded in this campaign as Bruce Brown and Christian Wood teamed up for an inbounds alley-oop of their own.

The Lakers defense didn't see the play coming. JaVale McGee reacted but was too late. Christian Wood was already up in the air staring into the rim with Brown seemingly hopping in excitement that the play is virtually done. Besides, even if the Lakers center read the play in advance, it seemed that there was no way in hell that he was going to deflect that pass. Only Wood had the capacity to catch that high-arching lob and throw it down.

Even the Lakers coaching staff was disappointed in the play. After all, Frank Vogel and company take pride in their defensive packages. But in that play, the Pistons fooled them. They even took a page out of their offensive playbook.
