The Detroit Pistons have the No. 7 overall pick in this month's upcoming 2020 NBA Draft, but they might be hoping to move up the board.

Pistons general manager Troy Weaver said moving up is ā€œdefinitelyā€ an option Detroit could look to pursue, per ESPN's Eric Woodyard.

If the Pistons do indeed trade up, they might have their eyes set on point guard prospect LaMelo Ball.

Woodyard notes Ball has been working out with trainer Jermaine Jackson Sr., a former Piston himself. Ball also held a free basketball camp in Rochester Hills last month. Woodyard says the Pistons are hoping to schedule an interview with the youngest Ball brother.

For his part, Weaver alluded to Ball's ties to the city being a positive for the Pistons in terms of his draft outlook:

ā€œI'm always happy to hear players embrace our organization, our city. That never goes unnoticed. I know people around him. His trainer is a Detroit native, so I'm sure he's been here for a while working out,ā€ Weaver said, via Woodyard. ā€œI'm sure he's well versed in the city from traveling around, being with his trainer and hearing different things, so no, that doesn't go unnoticed and that's always a positive when prospects speak highly of the city and the organization.ā€

Ball has had the most volatile stock of arguably any prospect in this year's class.

Many talent evaluators still see LaMelo as the best player, but he has fallen down mock boards because of reported struggles during individual team interviews.

It remains to be seen where Ball will land later this month, but the Pistons seem open to the idea of trading up to select Ball and keep him in the Detroit area full-time. Doing so might also reinvigorate Derrick Rose trade talks.
