What to expect from PlayStation Days of Play 2021

PlayStation's Days of Play 2021 starts on May 18, 2021 and will last until June 8, 2021. It will come in three stages, each one roughly a week long. Playing along Days of Play will reward gamers with exclusive PSN Avatars and Themes. You don't even have to do anything special. Just join in, and once the community goals are reached (measured by how many players join in the event), you get the reward.

Stage One: May 18, 12:00am PDT – May 24, 11:59pm PDT
Stage Two: May 25, 12:00am PDT – May 31, 11:59pm PDT
Final Stage: June 1, 12:00am PDT – June 7, 11:59pm PDT

Each phase has a specific community goal, which can be reached when over 2 million players join in. Bonus rewards for Days of Play 2021 can be obtained by getting even more people to join in, usually double the regular goals. Players will also have to accumulate trophies throughout the event to achieve the rewards. To top it all off, there are cumulative rewards if ever the community successfully reaches the regular goals for all three stages. Don't worry about the bonus goals.

You can track the goals and milestones here. Not that you can do much but encourage your friends to continue playing, but it's nice to keep track of the community's progress so far.

Finally, PlayStation gamers will be able to experience multiplayer without a PlayStation Plus subscription thanks to Days of Play. Sony hasn't announced yet when the free multiplayer weekend will come up. All we know is that it's coming sometime later this month. The free multiplayer weekend will be available to both PS4 and PS5 users.
