The Pokemon Company finally confirmed the remakes of the Nintendo DS game from 2006 Pokemon Diamond and Pearl! Coming out “Late 2021“, the new Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl will be “faithful remakes” of the Nintendo DS originals.

A NEW LOOK TO THE NEW POKEMON DIAMOND AND PEARL GAMES!

From the looks of the official Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl reveal trailer, the remakes look faithful enough. We caught glimpses of iconic locations in the Sinnoh region, as well as seeing the Drifloon in front of Valley Windworks. Long-time Pokemon fans from this era will even remember that Drifloon only comes by on Fridays!

Meanwhile, the look was updated to a somewhat chibi-looking art style. It can look a bit weird from certain angles, but it does faithfully recreate the look of the game from the top-down perspective. What's most exciting is that the 3D battles from later Pokemon games have finally found their way back to Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl! It's exciting to retrace our steps from 15 years ago and relive the excitement we've had with the Nintendo DS.

POKEMON BRILLIANT DIAMOND AND POKEMON SHINING PEARL SPECULATIONS

While the official trailer did show us a lot of how the game will look like, there are things that are still not clear. For example, will the game follow the story of Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl, or its follow-up, Pokemon Platinum?

We also see that the starter Pokemon will still be a choice between PiplupChimchar, or Turtwig. But will the Pokedex be limited like it was in Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl? Or will it be the updated version that we enjoyed in Pokemon Platinum?

The Pokemon Company should answer these important questions soon since they said that these two remakes will release this year.

It's worth noting however that GameFreak will not be developing this game. Instead, Pokemon Home developers ILCA will be handling the game's development. If this is a good or bad thing for the game, we shall soon find out.
