Pokemon UNITE is The Pokemon Company's unique take on the MOBA genre. While the Nintendo Switch version has been confirmed to arrive this July 2021, the mobile versions on Android and iOS have just recently been confirmed for September 2021.

The Pokemon Company calls the game a “strategic team battle game.” It pits two teams of five players each. Each player brings a Pokemon with them to battle, which can even evolve temporarily in the middle of the game. While most MOBAs goal is to destroy the enemy base, in Pokemon UNITE, teams earn points to win. To earn points, players will have to defeat the other Pokemon in the game, collecting the Aeos energy fallen Pokemon drop. Then, the player will have their Pokemon DUNK the Aeos energy they collected in the opponent's goal zones, which conveniently look like basketball hoops.

The game, to be honest, looks pretty great in terms of graphics and gameplay. It does not simply plaster the Pokemon brand on a MOBA game with the exact same gameplay as other MOBAs made by Tencent such as Arena of Valor. No, Pokemon UNITE has a unique take on the MOBA genre, bringing in new things that actually progress the genre.

Nintendo also confirmed that the game will feature a Battle Pass upon launch, offering cosmetics for the players' trainer avatars. The game will be free-to-start, which might possibly mean a level cap will constrain free-to-play gamers. Learn more about Pokemon UNITE on its official website.
