Street skating is having a moment. From its Olympics debut to its dominance on TikTok, skateboarding might be the official sport of the 2020s. This is why the emergence of the Premier Skateboard Association, and its dynamic Backyard Skate Battle, couldn't come at a better time for fans.

Premier Skateboard Association is a new street skating league for a new era. As the organization behind the Backyard Skate Battle series, PSA is entering the world of competitive street skating with a full event calendar in 2021 and 2022 (first up: Backyard Skate Battle #3, streaming live 12/4 at 1pm).

In 2020, Backyard Skate Battle became the first (and only) live street skating competition of the COVID era thanks to its unique format, digital livestream, and skater-first vibe. BSB #1 and BSB #2 showcased the tricky talents of 2020 Olympians Leticia Bufoni, Alexis Sablone, Carlos Ribeiro, Felipe Gustavo, Dashawn Jordan, Samarria Brevard, Manny Santiago, and Mariah Duran.

This week, U.S. Olympic team members Micky Papa and Maurio McCoy will make their PSA debuts in BSB #3; Dave Bachinsky, Chris Cole, Ryan Sheckler, Adrianne Sloboh, Chelsea Castro, Jenn Soto, Monica Torres, and Chris Joslin will also appear. Past BSB and PSA events have included Paul Rodriguez, Christiana Means, Torey Pudwill, and Shane O’Neill.

The PSA offers skateboarders of all genders equal compensation and benefits. Currently, Backyard Skate Battle contests feature the same obstacles, rules, and judging criteria for men’s and women’s rounds. As the league grows, founders Sheldon Lewis, Matt McKee, and Jordan Kidushim intend to keep and strengthen their commitment to athlete compensation, benefits, gender parity, and diversity.
