The PlayStation 5 is set to release this week after a near-brutal marketing campaign against its competition at Microsoft. Regardless of all the brownie points, the new Xbox has achieved, the PS5 still hopes to make waves with the release of its fifth home game console. Let's take a look at some of the game titles future PS5 owners will enjoy exclusively.

First impressions are hard to change. For video game consoles, its first impressions would definitely be the array of exclusive game titles it holds. Games exclusive to one system are the biggest selling point for any console. Why would you bother to pick up any system if its games can be played anywhere?

First-party PS5 games

The first part of the list features games crafted by Sony's very own game studios. The release date on these games are varied, but they have been confirmed to launch in the near future for the console. Subsequently, some games will also see a release on the console's predecessor, the PlayStation 4.

Untitled God of War Sequel

Everyone's favorite god-slayer is set to make a return. Following the massively successful PlayStation 4 outing for the series, Santa Monica Studio hopes to continue their dominant trend with a brief teaser for their next game. Not much is known about the next God of War game except for the fact that it is a direct sequel to 2018's God of War, which won the Game of the Year award from The Game Awards. Kratos, somewhere off-camera, utters one chilling line in the short teaser. “You must prepare yourself.” One can only assume he means that one needs to purchase a PS5.

Horizon Forbidden West

Guerilla Games announced the direct sequel to their 2017 hit Horizon Zero Dawn earlier this year. Horizon Forbidden West sees the return of the huntress Aloy as she ventures west into a far-future version of America. The game will launch sometime in the latter half of 2021 alongside a PlayStation 4 release.

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Sony seems hell-bent on working with the games that have been proven effective in the past. Miles Morales gets the spotlight in the Insomniac Games second game in the Spider-Man series. However, Spider-Man: Miles Morales has not been confirmed as a direct sequel to the first Spider-Man game. The new Spider-Man game will release as a launch title for the PlayStation 5 and will also release as a PS4 game.

Gran Turismo 7

The hyper-realistic racer Gran Turismo will launch on the PS5 sometime in 2021. The announcement trailer is bereft of any substantial information save for slick new graphics and a brief tour of some game menus. The developers behind the game promise to showcase all of their 22 years of experience to bring out the best Gran Turismo game yet.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

Insomniac Games' rag-tag space duo is back with a shiny coat of paint. Rift Apart is set to serve as a canonical continuation from Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus. The game will act purely as a standalone title on its own. The third-person shooter platformer will release in the first half of 2021.

Demon's Souls

The game that started all of the countless video game deaths, broken controllers, and rage quits, returns to its rightful place as a console standard-bearer. The Demon's Souls Remake will release as a PS5 launch title this week. FromSoftware was not the development team behind the remake. Bluepoint Games and SIE Japan Studio helmed the development of the remake of this iconic game.

Sackboy A Big Adventure

The zany mascot of the PS3 Little Big Planet series returns in a big way. Sackboy A Big Adventure is a 3D adventure platformer game a far cry from the past entrants in the series. The game will launch for the PS5 and the Ps4 this week.

Returnal

The first non-sequel and non-remake game on this list gets a little dark. Returnal is a third-person sci-fi psychological horror shooter. The teaser trailer is a brief but compelling look at what players can expect from this new IP. Returnal will launch in early 2021.

Astro's Playroom

Astro's Playroom will come pre-loaded on every PS5 on launch. The game will serve as an introductory course on the features of the brand new DualSense controller. Players will guide Astro in a 3d adventure through maps inspired by PS5 components.

Destruction AllStars

Here comes another new IP for the PS5. Destruction AllStars is a vehicular combat game that features crashed cars, explosions, and bright colors. The game harkens back to the glorious vehicle destruction in games such as Twisted Metal and Burnout.

These are the current first-party exclusive games for the PS5. We will surely see more games down the console's life cycle. It's hard not to be excited with such a wide array of interesting games. The list doesn't end here however as we still have some third-party exclusive games to explore.

Exclusive third-party PS5 games

The following list will feature games developed outside of Sony's vast studio umbrella. They may not be beholden to Sony but they have chosen to launch on the PS5. The third-party games will mostly launch alongside the PC version and with the possibility of other console versions down the line. Timed console exclusive games are still exclusive for a little while so let's get right down to the business.

Final Fantasy XVI

The nth entry to the massive Final Fantasy series will release on the PS5 as a console exclusive. Final Fantasy XVI will also launch on PC with a possible Xbox version to release in the future.

Deathloop

Deathloop is an action-adventure game from the studio behind the successful dishonored games. Players assume the role of an assassin stuck in a time loop of neverending action. The game will launch as a timed exclusive for both PS5 and PC in mid-2021. The trailer features snazzy music and flashy powers that just stokes player interest.

Ghostwire: Tokyo

The team behind the psychological horror survival series The Evil Within is gearing up for a big release in 2021. Ghostwire: Tokyo was initially teased in E3 2019. The game will be an action-adventure game played from a first-person perspective set in futuristic Tokyo, Japan. Use your paranormal and psychic abilities to defeat ghosts and spirits haunting high-tech Tokyo. The game is set for a PS5 release as a console exclusive alongside a PC version in 2021.

Godfall

If hacking and slashing is more your speed, consider the upcoming Godfall game. The new game from Gearbox Publishing is an action role-playing game focusing on melee combat. The third-person fantasy looter promises stunning visuals and exciting gameplay.  Godfall will release in late-2020 on PC and as a PS5 console exclusive.

Project Athia

Project Athia is the working title for the game being developed by Square Enix' new outfit, Luminous Productions. The new studio allegedly consists heavily of Final Fantasy XV developers. Luminous has been reticent on the details regarding Athia except for the information that it will launch on  PS5 and PC. There is currently no release date for this game.

These are all the current exclusive games announced for the PS5. There are several other titles that will launch alongside the console but they will also release for other platforms. Get your PS5 ready for this absolutely beast-like array of exclusive titles. Stay safe and happy gaming!
