Mark those calendars: the third Backyard Skate Battle will stream live from Los Angeles this Saturday, Dec 4th at 1pm PST. It's one of the first major events from the Premier Skateboard Association (PSA), as the world's best skaters come together to put on a show.

The BSB #3 lineup features skaters from all over the world, who will ride mano a mano (or womano a womano) in a trick contest like no other.

Backyard Skate Battle is a unique format developed by the Premier Skateboard Association. Here’s how a BSB competition works, courtesy of host Jordan Hoffart:

In each round, two skaters (three skaters in a rumble) have three minutes on the clock to land two tricks on a designated obstacle. Once all athletes have landed their tricks or run out of time, the judges’ panel will assign each skater a score for the round.

Three rounds — one for each obstacle — make up a heat. This Saturday, skaters will tackle the Double 5-Stairs, A-Frame, and Big Section (a.k.a. 7-Stair Rail). When all three obstacles have been completed, the heat is over; each skater in the heat receives a final score that combines their three round scores.

Final scores are revealed at the end of the contest. Here’s how the PSA scores the Backyard Skate Battle:

Premier Skateboarding judges look for consistency, creativity, difficulty, and style. Of course, “style goes a long way”—per Hoffart, style points are likely what cinched BSB #2 for Carlos Ribeiro.
