PSG superstar Lionel Messi was substituted off in the 65th minute of the club's 2-1 victory over Lyon last weekend and appeared to snub a handshake from manager Mauricio Pochettino. It was revealed later however that Messi picked up a knee injury, explaining why the Argentine took the former Barca star off.

Messi missed PSG's clash with Metz on Wednesday and it appears the injury could be more serious than initially thought. According to Spanish medical outlet Mejor con Salud, the striker suffered a bone contusion on international duty earlier this month and re-aggravated it on Sunday. If this is true, it puts Messi at risk for another injury in the coming months.

Per the report, the PSG frontman will miss a few weeks. This is certainly not ideal for Messi, considering he's struggled to really make an impact thus far in the French capital. In three games, the six-time Ballon d'Or winner has yet to score or supply an assist.

Because of the injury, he is a major doubt for a massive Champions League encounter with Manchester City next week. PSG is currently at the very top of the Ligue 1 table with a perfect 21 points from seven matches, but it would be ideal to have Lionel Messi available. There's been such excitement to see what an attack consisting of Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe is capable of, but we've yet to receive a glimpse.
