Another star college football player has opted out of the 2020 season. Purdue wide receiver Rondale Moore has elected not to play this fall, citing “unprecedented circumstances” surrounding COVID-19.

Moore is eligible to complete his degree, and said he will begin preparations for the 2021 NFL Draft. His Boilermaker career is officially over.

Moore was one of the most explosive players in college football during his freshman year at Purdue. He finished the season with 114 receptions for 1,258 yards and 12 touchdowns and also tallied 213 yards rushing on the year.

The diminutive Moore played in just four games in 2019 due to a leg injury sustained in a September matchup against the Minnesota Golden Gophers, but still had some of the highest stock of any receiver in the country entering the 2020 season.

Despite his size, Moore routinely finds a way to slip out of the grasp of would-be tacklers. His 37 broken tackles in 2018 were the most in a single season by any wide receiver since 2014, per Pro Football Focus.

Moore is not the only high-profile NCAA player electing to sit out.

Miami Hurricanes defensive end Greg Rousseau—widely regarded as one of the top prospects in the 2021 draft class—also announced he was opting out on Thursday.

There are tons of question marks surrounding Division I football in 2020. Power conferences such as the Big Ten and SEC have both chosen to play a conference-only regular season schedule. But it remains to be seen whether other star players will follow in Rousseau’s and Moore’s footsteps or not as they prepare for the future.
