The Purdue Boilermakers are off to a great start this season with wins over Oregon State and Connecticut. Their biggest test to date will come in Week 3 against No. 12 Notre Dame. Purdue will have to get the job done without their star running back Zander Horvath.

Via the Charlotte Observer, Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm announced that Horvath suffered a broken fibula and will miss four to eight weeks.

Next in line for the Boilermakers are junior King Doerue and redshirt freshman Dylan Downing.

“King has played a lot of football for us, been a little injured here and there, but we want him to go out there and play his brand of football,” Brohm said. “Dylan has come in and proven that he’ll run the ball hard, and he understands what we’re doing. He’s a tremendous worker and gives us everything he has.”

Horvath was expected to be the lead back for Purdue again this year and had ran well enough last year to earn third-team all-Big Ten honors.

Notre Dame is off to an odd start. They have beaten Florida State and Toledo but both games came down to the final possession and the Fighting Irish had to score last to win both contests.

Purdue will offer up another test for Notre Dame but not having Horvath will be a big blow to the Boilermakers. Nonetheless, it should be an entering matchup in South Bend, Indiana on Saturday.
