Ubisoft released a new video showing off the latest addition to the defensive side: the operator Thunderbird. Coming out along with the Rainbow Six Siege (R6 Siege) North Star update, her presence in the game will drastically improve the survivability of her team.

R6 Siege‘s newest operator: Introducing Thunderbird

The June 14, 2021 North Star update brings with it balance changes, but most importantly it introduces the new character Thunderbird. The defense operator focuses on keeping her allies alive during the operation using tools and kits that heals them.

Thunderbird is a 3-speed 1-armor defense operator. Her weapon of choice is either the Spear.308 assault rifle and the SPAS-15 semi-automatic shotgun. To keep her folks healthy, her kit includes a “Kóna Station”, a healing station that can even revive downed allies. Thunderbird will have to be wary, though, because the R6 Siege new operator's gadget can also help enemies. The Kóna Station heals not only allies but any individual who goes within the gadget's range. Hence, Thunderbird will have to keep tabs on her gadget and make sure to move them to more secure and strategic positions once the attackers move in.

North Star Release Date: June 14, 2021

The video posted by Ubisoft also detailed some of the changes coming with the new update. The new update, which goes live on June 14, 2021, will bring more than just Thunderbird. The biggest of these additions is the new Favela map, but there are also some changes that will make big changes to how you play R6 Siege.

For example, compensators, muzzle breaks, and flash hiders have been retooled so that “more of your bullets will go where you want them to go.”

A new post-death sequence eliminates issues with body dumping. Because of graphical inconsistency on how dead bodies appear between players, Ubisoft opted instead to remove the bodies entirely. The corpses will be replaced by a translucent marker instead. Bullet holes now no longer make big holes unless hit with a strong force.

Various balance changes and retooling of gadgets will also be implemented, so be sure to check the full patch notes before the start of the new season. Players who want to experience the new update early can do so by opting for the PC Play Test Server, which goes online Tuesday, May 24, 2021.
