Oakland Raiders wide receiver Amari Cooper took a step closer to a return to action after clearing concussion protocol, Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk has reported.

That being said, Cooper is still uncertain to play this coming Sunday in an all-important matchup on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs, as he’s still dealing with the left ankle injury he sustained back in Week 12 versus the Denver Broncos. Cooper missed the Raiders’ Week 13’s showdown with the New York Giants at home.

Cooper’s hurting ankle prevented the Alabama product from joining teammates in practice Wednesday, though he has a shot at giving it a go this Friday when the Raiders go through practice again. As of the moment, Cooper’s availability for the Chiefs game remains up in the air.

Should he be declared out for another game, Cordarrelle Patterson and Johnny Holton will see increased involvement on offense again. Against the Giants, Patterson led the team with 87 receiving yards on four targets, while Holton had three receptions for 39 yards and a touchdown.

Some good news for the Raiders is that wide receiver Michael Crabtree is slated to line up downfield against Kansas City Sunday after serving a one-game suspension.
