Oakland Raiders pass rusher Bruce Irvin is a strong personality who’s not afraid to speak his mind. So is Raiders head coach Jon Gruden. Having two people with that type of temperament in the same locker room can sometimes result in some explosive confrontations. However, Irvin reveals that their similarities have actually seen them hit it off.

“He talks s— like I talk s—, so we get along,” Irvin said per Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.

Irvin went on to further expound that he and Gruden have a great relationship and that he couldn’t ask for a better type of coach to work with.

“We’ve got a great relationship. He speaks his mind, I speak my mind. I come to work, he comes to work,” Irvin said. “You couldn’t ask to work with a [better] person like that. A guy who is football, football, football. That’s all it’s about — winning and football. That’s the type of coach you want in the building.”

It’s been so far, so good in terms of Gruden getting along with his new players. Quarterback Derek Carr has also said that he’s enjoyed Gruden's coaching and that he's found some striking similarities between himself and Gruden that have brought them close. Irvin is seemingly no different.

But while the Raiders are enjoying their honeymoon stage with Gruden at the moment, it will be interesting to see how long it’ll last. They may not feel the same about one another when things get tough or when a bit more time has passed. But that’s just a bridge they’ll have to cross when they get there.
