With the start of free agency just around the corner, the Las Vegas Raiders have now freed up a bit of cap space following a notable move.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Raiders have opted to release veteran linebacker Cory Littleton. Fowler further adds that Littleton is expected to be a post-June 1 cut, so the Raiders will hold $4.0 million and $9.9 million in dead cap space for the next two seasons respectively, but they are set to save $11.7 million for the 2022 season.

Littleton was set to hold a $15.76 million cap number for the 2022 campaign, which would have ranked him second on the team behind quarterback Derek Carr ($19.8 million) after left tackle Kolton Miller restructured his $16.8 million cap hit earlier on Thursday.

After a four-season stint with the Los Angeles Rams, Littleton signed with the Raiders over the 2020 free agency period on a three-year, $35.25 million deal, with $22 million of it being guaranteed upfront. This move was among now-former Raiders general manager Mike Mayock’s big-money deals during his tenure with the team.

Littleton had his fair share of struggles in his debut season in Las Vegas, which included 17 missed tackles. The veteran linebacker then wound up featuring in all 17 regular season games this past season but saw a notable decrease in snaps played over the latter half of the campaign.

As it stands, Denzel Perryman is set to be the only Raiders linebacker who featured in at least 30 percent of snaps last season who will return for the 2022 campaign, as K.J. Wright will hit free agency in the coming week.

Overall, Littleton has played in 95 total games over six seasons so far in the NFL, where he has recorded 495 total tackles and 26 tackles for loss.
