The Las Vegas Raiders, to the surprise of many, decided to take Damon Arnette in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Ahead of his first year with the Raiders, Arnette has inked his rookie deal on Saturday, according to the team's official Twitter account.

With the No. 12 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Raiders took Henry Ruggs. Ruggs was a heralded pick due to his ability to stretch the field and become a viable weapon for quarterback Derek Carr.

However, when Las Vegas selected Arnette with the No. 19 pick, it drew plenty of criticism from fans and the media alike. Nevertheless, when Jon Gruden was asked about Arnette, he didn't hesitate to call out the critics on the team's decision to add Arnette.

“I just look at his tape,”Gruden said in an interview with Jerry McDonald of the San Jose (Calif.) Mercury News. “I've heard people say, ‘He's not a first-round pick on our board.' Well, whose board are we talking about? Then if you're in to analytics, according to ProFootballFocus.com he had the the best QB rating against him of any corner in the draft. I mean, he's a hell of a player. That's why I like him.

Coming out of Ohio State, Arnette notched a total of 22 pass breakups and five interceptions in four collegiate seasons. In light of that, Arnette is expected to compete for a starting job in training camp. At the least, Las Vegas has secured Arnette to a four-year deal to begin his tenure with the organization.
