For the most part, Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr and head coach Jon Gruden have a good relationship. But according to Jordy Nelson, there were a few times that they clashed.

On a recent appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, Nelson talked about his time with the Raiders, including his relationship with Carr.

According to Nelson, there were a few times coming off the field that Carr and Gruden had a few heated discussions, but that isn't unusual when two competitive people want to be winners (via Heavy.com):

“I think their two demeanors and personalities might clash but they honestly get along great. I mean, it’s a good balance. There’s a couple of times when I was there they got a little fiery at each other, but you know, that happens with everyone. Especially when you’re coming right off the field. … One thing I think that works great with those two, like I said earlier, Derek is extremely smart and puts in so much time and work that he can handle everything that Gruden’s throwing at him.”

Nelson signed before the 2018 season to give Carr another weapon on offense. He finished the season catching 63 passes for 739 yards and three touchdowns. It was a fine performance, but many believed that he would make more of an impact.

It's easy to read too much into Nelson's comments, but they are ultimately benign, and could be said about most other coach-quarterback duos in the NFL. Clearly, Gruden and Carr have a good relationship, and also a dynamic one.
