The Oakland Raiders have revamped the roster under the new regime led by head coach Jon Gruden. One of the new additions to the team is veteran running back Doug Martin who appears to be impressing everyone in the short time he's been with the franchise.

Along with the coaching staff recently signing his praises, perennial Pro Bowler Derek Carr has also been impressed with the one-time All-Pro. Carr has been especially taken aback by Martin's work ethic, via the team's website.

“He’s been one of the hardest workers since we got here in Phase 1, hands down. He’s been one of the guys out there that just every day sticks out doing something where you see why he’s a Pro Bowler. I guess you don’t see why he got let go, but you’re thankful that we have him.”

Although the signing of Martin was initially a surprising move by the Raiders brass considering the return of Marshawn Lynch, it appears he's made things interesting in Oakland in terms of potentially battling the one-time Super Bowl champion for the starting role in 2018.

Last year, Martin went through a humbling experiencing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as he was suspended the first four games of the 2017 campaign due to a violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy. That suspension practically ended any chance of proving his worth to the team as they parted ways with their longtime feature back after six seasons.

If Martin continues to be impressive leading up to the start of the 2018 NFL season, the veteran back may very well get the bulk of the carries out of the backfield or at least get a sizable workload. Regardless of whether he's named the starter, Martin gives the Raiders some depth at running back as they try to bounce back after a disappointing season last year.
