Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr will have some competition after the Raiders signed former Tennessee Titans signal-caller Marcus Mariota in free agency.

But Carr is already making strides to build a relationship with Mariota, lauding him for his character.

Via Austin Boyd of Heavy.com.

“We’ve talked already,” Carr said on the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast. “He is by far one of the coolest, nicest, professional people I’ve ever been around. I’ve got nothing but good things to say about him. He’s amazing.”

Carr also said the Raiders would have a “united quarterback room” as leaders in the locker room (via Boyd):

“I think the most important thing is to have a united quarterback room,” Carr said. “I’ve always thought that. When you have a strong united quarterback, we can all go lead the football team. … Our depth of the offense that we know, we have to correct guys, things like that — I think it’s only good things for our team.”‘

Carr–the incumbent starter–figures to be under center come Week 1. Raiders general manager Mike Mayock and head coach Jon Gruden each issued support for Carr when rumors tied Las Vegas to Tom Brady earlier this spring.

Still, Mariota's athleticism and running ability might make him a weapon in Gruden's offense. He could be a guy who lines up all over the field while also getting some snaps under center.

Regardless, Carr indicated Las Vegas' quarterbacks will be ready to take the next step together as the Raiders hope to reach the playoffs in 2020.
