The Oakland Raiders are looking to get back on track in 2018 with Jon Gruden back in the mix as the franchise's head coach for the next decade. Along with Gruden taking on the tall task of turning things around in Oakland, quarterback Derek Carr will be under pressure to become the franchise player Gruden envisions.

In the short time he's been with the Raiders, Carr has quickly turned into the team's undisputed leader. He is among the most respected players in Oakland and the perfect person to send a message to incoming players on what their mindset should be. Carr did just that by saying the following to this year's rookie class, transcription via Silver And Black Pride.

“Don’t try and prove people wrong. It is a waste of your time, they are a waste of your time,” said Carr. “Prove the people right that gave you a chance. Prove Mr. McKenzie right for giving you the opportunity. Prove coach Gruden right for giving you the chance to be on this team. Does that make sense? Don’t waste your time with any of those other people saying that you aren’t good enough.”

The upcoming 2018 campaign will be an important one for the Raiders as Gruden tries to get back into the swing of things while shaping the roster. The one-time Super Bowl champion has been out of coaching for almost a decade and could take some time to adjust to the modern game with plenty of doubters already chiming in about whether he can make that adjustment.

As for Carr, the perennial Pro Bowler will attempt to keep his career firing on all cylinders. Carr is coming off a somewhat disappointing season compared to his standards and has been criticized for taking a perceived step back.

The Raiders will be put under the microscope this season with plenty to prove making Carr's comments interesting, to say the least, considering the turning point for Oakland.
