The annual NFL Top 100 Players list for 2018 — a list voted on by the players themselves — continues to roll out slowly, revealing 10 players at a time from 100 all the way to one. The list is only halfway done, but it’s already disappointed Derek Carr, who finds himself in the wrong half.

The Oakland Raiders quarterback landed all the way down in No. 60 on the list, a precipitous drop from his No. 11 ranking just last year. Carr voiced his displeasure at his dip in the rankings on Twitter and hinted that he’s eager to use this slight as motivation for this season.

After a terrific 2016 campaign which saw him lead the Raiders to a 12-3 record and creep into possible MVP contention, Carr took a major step back in 2017. His stats across the board — 3,496 yards on 62.7 percent completion, 22 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions — all got worse

Carr’s decline was a major factor in the Raiders, who went a mere 6-10, ending up as one of the biggest disappointments in the whole league last year. That down year cost head coach Jack del Rio his job as he was replaced by Jon Gruden.

Carr will now be hoping that Gruden’s guidance can help get him and the Raiders back on track this season. Gruden is renowned for his work with quarterbacks and will likely work closely with Carr to bring out the very best out of him. If Gruden proves successful, chances are Carr will end up being a lot better than the 60th best player in the league this year.
