The Oakland Raiders are hoping to take another step toward contending for a Super Bowl during the 2017 NFL season after ending their playoff drought last year. Derek Carr and company are on the right track with high hopes for the season, but veteran left tackle Donald Penn wasn't happy with his contract situation heading into training camp.

Apparently, after missing all of training camp with the Raiders, Penn is ready to return to the team. Penn is expected to end his long holdout, according to Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Raiders left tackle Donald Penn is expected to end his 25-day holdout and return to practice this week, according to league sources. He was not on the field for the start of practice on Tuesday.

Penn is set to make $5.95 million for the 2017 campaign. The two-time Pro Bowler is coming off another solid season and entering the last year of his four-year deal with the team.

The veteran left tackle may be able to work on a deal with the team once he returns to Oakland. As arguably one of the best players in the league at his position, the Raiders brass may be inclined to keep their offensive line intact long-term.

Oakland has one of the best offensive lines in the league with Penn, Kelechi Osemele, Rodney Hudson, and Gabe Jackson leading the way. The team has quickly become an offensive juggernaut with this protection up front for Carr and the additions of talented players like Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree.

It'll be interesting to see which way the Raiders go with Penn moving forward. Negotiations will likely begin between the two sides on a new deal, but no telling whether a deal will get done before the start of the regular season.
