The Oakland Raiders entered the 2017 NFL season with the expectations of a legitimate run at Super Bowl LII. However, it was evident early in the year that this team still has a way to go before setting the bar that high again.

The Raiders have decided to switch things up again following their embarrassing 33-8 defeat at the hands of the New England Patriots in Week 11. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, head coach Jack Del Rio announced the firing of defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr. on Tuesday:

“After careful thought, I have made a difficult decision to part ways with Ken Norton, Jr. as defensive coordinator,” coach Jack Del Rio said in a statement. “I have the utmost respect for Ken as a person and as a coach, but I feel that moving John Pagano into the play-calling role will best utilize his wealth of experience. I appreciate Ken's passion and commitment to the Raiders since coming aboard and wish him the best going forward.”

Players like linebacker Bruce Irvin wasted no time in voicing their displeasure over his departure. However, the writing was essentially on the wall after yet another disastrous season from a defensive standpoint.

Oakland currently ranks 26th in total defense and still have yet to record an interception through 10 games.

Stepping up in Norton's place to finish the season is assistant head coach John Pagano.

That being said, the bigger concern for Del Rio will be who to fire next after parting ways with two coordinators in as many years.
