Oakland Raiders cornerback Gareon Conley suffered a concussion during his team's game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday afternoon and will miss the remainder of the contest, according to the team.

Conley registered two tackles before exiting.

On the year, Conley has totaled 34 tackles, two interceptions, 13 passes defended, and a defensive touchdown.

The 23-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Ohio State University, was originally selected by the Raiders in the first round (24th pick overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.

However, due to a shin injury, Conley ended up playing in just two games during his rookie campaign, tallying seven tackles before being placed on the injured reserve list.

Before sustaining his concussion on Sunday, Conley appeared to be one of the lone bright spots in what has been a disastrous season in Oakland.

The Raiders are in their first year under new head coach Jon Gruden, who is actually in his second stint with the franchise. He originally coached the club from 1998 through 2001, taking it as far as the AFC Championship Game during the 2000-01 campaign.

Up until breaking a lengthy playoff drought in 2016-17, Oakland last made the postseason during the 2002-03 season, falling to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (who were ironically coached by Gruden) in the Super Bowl.

During that drought, the Raiders were unable to put together a single winning season.

Things seemed to be looking up for Oakland in 2016, when quarterback Derek Carr led them to 12 wins and a Wild Card berth, but Carr broke his leg in Week 16 and ended up missing the playoffs.

The Raiders entered Sunday with a record of just 3-10.
