It’s not official yet, but it it’s safe to say that Jon Gruden is going to be the Oakland Raiders' next head coach. As for who will make up his cast of assistants, current Los Angeles Rams quarterbacks coach Greg Olson is expected to join Gruden as Oakland’s offensive coordinator, Alex Marvez of Sporting News is reporting.

This report comes three days after Joe Arrigo of ESPN reported that Gruden is set to name New York Jets offensive coordinator John Morton as the Raiders’ new OC.

This will get sorted out soon. Whoever the Raiders ultimately hire as their next offensive coordinator will have plenty of talented pieces to work with.

The Raiders finished just 23rd in the league in scoring offense and 18th on total offense in the regular season, though their struggles in that area had a lot to do with injuries to some of their key players, like quarterback Derek Carr and wide receiver Amari Cooper. Their talented offensive line was also banged up for most of the year.

If Olson does end up taking over as the Raiders’ new offensive coordinator, it will be his second stint with the team. He served that role for Oakland for two seasons from 2013 to 2014. Prior to that, Olson was an assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars (2012), as well as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2008-2011).

Olson played a pivotal role in the Rams’ offense taking a big step forward this season. After finishing last in scoring offense in 2016, Los Angeles turned things around and became the No. 1 scoring team this season with 29.9 points per game.
