Following the hiring of Jon Gruden as the Oakland Raiders' next head coach, much of the focus on the franchise has shifted to the new relationship between Gruden and Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Carr.

New offensive coordinator Greg Olson recently chimed in on the topic, voicing that he strongly believes the pairing will work wonders on the field next season and well beyond that, according to Michael Gehlken of The Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Carr is coming off a disappointing 2017 season that saw the Raiders miss the playoffs entirely after an MVP-caliber campaign the year prior. The 26-year-old has demonstrated the type of talent that could allow him to become one of the league's top quarterbacks, as he has thrown more than 20 touchdowns and for at least 3,250 yards in each of his first four years under center.

There is clearly hope that Carr will eventually fulfill that massive potential, especially after the organization committed a five-year, $125 million extension to him last June. He is in place to be a game-changing talent that can lead the Raiders to a massive amount of success over the duration of his career.

By hiring an offensive-minded head coach in Gruden and a new offensive coordinator, Oakland has made it clear that it wants to implement a game plan that best suits Carr's skill set under center. They will likely make several other roster and coaching changes this offseason to help provide the two-time Pro Bowler with more weapons on that side of the ball.

Gruden has already made it clear that he wants to “unlock the greatness” in Carr to help bring the franchise back to the top as a perennial Super Bowl contender. These goals further underline how important this new pairing is to the success Oakland hopes to have over the next several years.
