It was a disastrous 2017 NFL season for Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr, to say the least. However, there is one former teammate who is confident that he can revert back to his promising form.

Former NFL wide receiver James Jones has played with some of the best quarterbacks in recent league history. Perhaps this is why he is confident that Carr will win the NFL AP MVP at some point in the near future per the Oakland Raiders official YouTube account:

“My comments will never change, DC [Derek Carr] is going to be the MVP of this league one year pretty soon. You can mark my words. He is a special talent,” Jones said. I played with Brett [Favre], I played with Aaron[Rodgers], I played with DC. I've seen it before and he has it. And I'm happy he is getting a guy in Olson that he's had before and I think this season, he'll take off, for sure.”

Jones' comments certainly carry some weight considering he has played with two of the most prolific quarterback in Green Bay Packers history in Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers. That said, it seems he sees the same intangible qualities that made them great in Carr.

Oakland certainly believes so after their lucrative signing of head coach Jon Gruden. Speaking of Chuckie, Jones praised Gruden's addition of Greg Olson as the team's new offensive coordinator as well. As a result, the Raiders may finally have the right supporting cast to help Carr take that next step into MVP contention many thought was coming this year.
