The Oakland Raiders made several major changes to the roster this offseason, including the addition of former Pro Bowl wide receiver Jordy Nelson through free agency.

Nelson has brought some much-needed veteran presence to the wide receiver corps. On Thursday, head coach Jon Gruden voiced that he believes the 32-year-old can help push Amari Cooper to the next level on the field, according to Dan Graziano of ESPN.

Nelson had a notable drop off in production this past season, who recorded 53 receptions for 482 receiving yards and six touchdowns, but he has plenty to offer the Raiders. Beyond this being an opportunity for him to get back on track to produce at an elite level, he has a chance to be a mentor and help elevate Cooper's play.

The 23-year-old Alabama product is coming off a disappointing 2017 season where he posted career lows across the board with 48 catches for 680 receiving yards while recording seven touchdowns. Much of this can be attributed to his struggles with his health, as he was dealing with a nagging ankle injury and even suffered a concussion that forced him to miss two games (first time in career Cooper missed action). This led to a lack of consistent production throughout the season that saw him finish with fewer than 70 receiving yards in all but two games played. He failed to crack double-digit receiving yards on five occasions, and he only recorded one catch in one of their games.

Nelson's presence in the passing game could work wonders for the Raiders, helping provide more stability to the offense while possibility helping Cooper get to a Pro Bowl-level.
