There were some who felt that the Oakland Raiders could take a quarterback with the fourth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft on Thursday night, as Dwayne Haskins, Daniel Jones and Drew Lock were all on the board at that spot.

However, the Raiders had maintained all along that they were behind Derek Carr as their signal-caller moving forward, and on Thursday evening, they confirmed as much, as they did not take a quarterback with any of their three first-round picks.

Afterwards, Oakland head coach Jon Gruden once again said that Carr will be under center for the foreseeable future:

“I'm not going to address all of the rumors,” Gruden said, via the Raiders' official team website. “I was part of the rumor cycle for nine years. That's TV and that's internet chatter, but I'm telling you: Derek Carr is our quarterback, and I've said that I think this is the fourth or fifth time, and if they don't believe me, then there's nothing that I can do about that. But I've tried to add pieces to help Derek, at receiver, on the offensive line, with Josh Jacobs, and I think the better we play defense, the better Derek Carr will be.”

Carr is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he threw for 4,049 yards, 19 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing 68.9 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 93.9.

Prior to this past season, the 28-year-old had made three straight Pro Bowl appearances, including his MVP-caliber 2016 campaign in which he totaled 3,937 yards, 28 touchdowns and six picks.
