On Thursday, the Oakland Raiders and the new regime led by head coach Jon Gruden made yet another move in what is turning out to be a very active offseason for the storied NFL franchise. The team acquired wide receiver Martavis Bryant in exchange for a third-round draft pick.

With Gruden determined to make a drastic culture change in Oakland with character guys, the acquisition of Bryant was a surprising move, to say the least. Although it was a bit of a shock, it appears Gruden has a plan for his new wideout as he believes coming to the Raiders will unleash his true potential, via Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.

“I think a change of scenery could unleash his greatness,” Gruden said.

In 2016, Bryant was suspended for the entire season while with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Bryant's second offense in violating the NFL's substance abuse policy was enough to keep him off the field for the 2016 campaign and it was just the beginning of his bad press.

Along with the suspension, Bryant has caused some problems in Pittsburgh as he hadn't been happy with the way the team was using him in the offense. The emergence of Steelers wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster angered Bryant invoking some critical comments which ultimately put him at odds with the coaching staff.

Regardless of his issues, Gruden jumped at the opportunity to bring him in which is a bold move. Bryant could be exactly what is needed to compliment Jordy Nelson and Amari Cooper or he may bring more trouble than he's worth.
