Jon Gruden has come under fire in recent weeks for his leaked emails. The emails contained racist, homophobic, and sexist language directed staff members and players of the NFL. According to former player of Gruden, the ex-Las Vegas Raiders coach has been struggling with this issue for quite a while.

John Lynch, former Tampa Bay Buccaneer under Gruden and now San Francisco 49ers general manager, spoke at length about the ex-Raiders' head coach: (via 49ers WebZone)

“I had the opportunity during the bye week, I reached out, and was surprised he actually called me back, and had a good conversation. He feels a tremendous amount of remorse, as he should. And that's what you do; you reach out to people and say, ‘Hey, I'm thinking and praying for you.' And I simply said, ‘Hey, when you're ready, give me a call,' and he did.

“We shared some thoughts — I'll leave that privately— but he is extremely remorseful and understands he's got to make up for that however he can. And I think those are his actions. And that's the only thing he can do at this point.

Lynch has a close relationship with Gruden. The 49ers GM played under Gruden for the Buccaneers and helped bring the team a Super Bowl victory in 2003. That bond with ex-Raiders head coach seems to be unbreakable to this day… but that likely won't change any ideas about Gruden anytime soon.

Gruden was actually removed from the Bucs Hall of Fame after the leaked emails were made public. He was also subsequently fired from his post with the Raiders. Losing all your credibility and status in an instant is heartbreaking, yes, but it's the reality of the world right now. You have to be held accountable for your past actions.

Hopefully, Lynch's words about Gruden being remorseful is true, and that the ex-Raiders coach will turn a new leaf after this.
