It was reported earlier this week that Khalil Mack wouldn't be reporting to Oakland Raiders training camp and Adam Schefter of ESPN reported the relationship was actually worse than that.

According to Schefter, Mack and Raiders coach Jon Gruden hadn't spoken since Gruden had been hired as the head coach. Gruden was asked about the report on Friday at training camp and the first year Raiders coach denied the claims.

“Is that dramatic? Really? Consider what’s drama. I’ve talked to Khalil,” Gruden said via silverandblackpride.com. “Those guys aren’t always 100% accurate, I’ve talked to Khalil, I talked to Mack when I got the job, I just haven’t had a lot of talk with him lately. Not much to talk about right now, sorry.”

Schefter is usually pretty on with his reports but this case seems like it might be a time that he got it wrong. When Mack does report to camp it will probably be one of the first things he is asked about, so Gruden lying here would be a really bad look.

Gruden also didn't have an update about when Mack might return. He said right now he is just focusing on the team that is here and hopes he will show up soon.

“I’m coaching the team,” Gruden said of Mack’s situation. “I’m gonna run the quarterback meetings, I’m gonna go in there and try to install the plays and get ready for the next practice. Reggie [McKenzie] will be able to update you on his situation. He’s been in contact with his representation and hopefully we get him in here soon because he’s an exciting player. He’s one of the best in football.”

Mack is looking for a new contract and by all indications, it could be a long while before he does report to camp.
