Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden seems pleased with the recent stretch of performances from quarterback Derek Carr, even if they haven't resulted in a ton of victories.

Carr managed to throw for 263 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 30-16 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, but he faced a ton of pressure in being sacked five times on the day.

Of course, it wasn't the first time this season that Carr found himself surrounded by defenders, and that's likely taken a toll on his body throughout the grueling 2018 campaign.

But despite the team's 3-11 record, Carr is still picking up praise from his new coach.

From Ron Kroichick of SFGate:

“I think he’s hanging in there,” Gruden said at his weekly news conference Monday. “I’m sure he’s sore. He knows he’s carrying us right now on offense. That’s what a franchise quarterback is paid to do.

“We’re trying to do everything we can to support him. … He’s really had us in position to win games.”

There just hasn't been a whole lot that's gone right for the Raiders this season, and with plenty of uncertainty surrounding the team's future both on and off the field, it may be a long rebuild for Gruden and his staff.

But for now, Carr and company will try to finish the regular season on a positive note when they prepare for two AFC West rivals over the next few weeks.

First up is a Monday night showdown with the Denver Broncos in what could be the team's final game at Oakland Alameda Coliseum, and then the Raiders will hit the road for a matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 17.
